The big talk on Sunday for the Philadelphia Eagles was general manager Howie Roseman's trade for Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III. Still, one aspect of the trade hasn't been discussed as much.
While Day 3 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft were swapped, the Texans did receive another player as well: tight end Harrison Bryant. After the season-ending injury to Brevin Jordan, Houston found his replacement in Bryant.
In his short time with the Eagles in preseason, Bryant has not recorded any stats. He was in competition for the TE3 job as he was battling against Kylen Granson.
The easy choice is to assume Granson has done enough to win the job. Bryant didn't do much of anything, and the other tight ends haven't done much in camp or preseason for anyone to challenge Granson.
Right now, the only exception who might be able to make some kind of argument is E.J. Jenkins, as he has three catches for 32 yards in two games. That's four more yards than Granson has during the preseason.
Other than that, the tight ends have not been featured so much in the offense as Week 1 was more about the wide receivers like Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson, and Ainias Smith stealing the show. Saturday's loss to the Cleveland Browns was a nothing burger with 88 total yards of offense put up so no one on that side of the ball showed up.
At this point, the TE3 job will default to Granson, which isn't a bad thing. He was a reliable backup for the Indianapolis Colts over the last four years, so they are acquiring someone who has proven to be a consistent and reliable role player.
It would be a surprise if another tight end on the roster would challenge Granson as it appears to be his job to lose.
