There's never a rest day for Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, as he's always looking for the next great player for the team.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that the Eagles are expected to sign wide receiver Javon Baker to the practice squad. New England selected Baker in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

During his rookie season, Baker caught just one of his four targets for 12 yards as he started just one of 11 games he appeared in. He was only able to grab one pass during the preseason as well for 13 yards.

What are the Eagles getting in Baker?

Technically, Baker is a former Alabama player, having played there for his first two seasons in college before transferring to UCF. In the 2023 season, he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection after leading the team with 52 catches for 1,139 yards and seven touchdowns.

Baker has big play potential with his 4.54-second 40-yard dash speed. Standing at 6-foot-1, he could play on the outside and take on any corner with his decent size.

The Eagles have been looking to add size in the receiver room with Johnny Wilson's season-ending injury. Elijah Cooks also has excellent size for a receiver, but he was on the practice squad.

Philly will most likely not play Baker in the regular season unless there is a large number of injuries that occur at the position. The Eagles are more likely to see him as a developmental player on the practice squad who might someday be a factor.

This season, the Eagles had concerns going into training camp with the lack of depth at wide receiver. With all these new guys coming in, it almost feels like they have too many talented guys, which is just fine with them.
