Eagles release veteran WR DeSean Jackson

For the second time since March 2014, the Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

The Eagles officially announced the news on Friday afternoon and then thanked the 34-year-old via social media:

Jackson played with the Eagles from 2008 through 2013 and then rejoined Philadelphia in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2019. Injuries mostly ruined his homecoming, however, as he played in only three regular-season games in 2019, and then appeared in five contests in 2020.

He finished Week 17 of the 2020 campaign with 14 receptions for 236 yards and a touchdown.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN, the Eagles expect to receive $6 million in salary-cap relief by cutting Jackson.

While no longer anywhere near his prime, Jackson will fondly be remembered by Philadelphia fans as a three-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2010, 2013) who once could seemingly take the ball to the house for a touchdown from nearly anywhere on the field. As McManus noted, Jackson holds the NFL record for 60-plus-yard touchdowns with 24.
