After a full offseason of speculation, the long-winded question of what is going to happen to Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Bryce Huff is over.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers are finalizing a trade that will send Huff to the 49ers in exchange for a mid-round pick. The trade cannot be finalized until June 1. He will be reunited with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh who was his head coach when Huff played for the New York Jets.

Huff only played one season with the Eagles after signing a three-year, $51 million contract last offseason. Last year, he only made 13 tackles, four quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks in 12 games with the Eagles.
On Wednesday, Huff was a notable player missing from OTAs, which sparked even more questions about his future with the Eagles. The one-year experiment appears to be over.
One of the biggest aspects on why the Eagles needed to make the move was the financial part of it and general manager Howie Roseman appears to have covered his bases.
ESPN NFL reporter Field Yates added the Eagles declined Huff's $15.58 million fully guaranteed option bonus, which was turned into a base salary. Philadelphia then made the $9.05 million of the base salary into a signing bonus as the 49ers will take on the remaining $7.95 million. This will save the Eagles $7.95 million in cash and add over $15 million in cap space.

Adding the fact that Huff was not going to see the field as a starter with the emergence of Jalyx Hunt. The Eagles also signed Azeez Ojulari, Josh Uche , and Patrick Johnson to cover their basis in depth.
Huff now gets a fresh start with a defensive system he is already familiar with since he worked with Salah in New York. The best season Huff had was in 2023 when he racked up over 10 sacks with the Jets.
It's a win-win situation that needed to get resolved and the Eagles executed the trade to perfection with acquiring a pick, trading a player who declined, and saved money in the process.
