Eagles RT Lane Johnson announced his retirement on social media Tuesday, after playing in just three games this season.
Johnson, 36, was a first-round pick of the Eagles in 2013. He had one year remaining on his four-year, $19.853 million rookie contract when the Eagles signed him to a five-year extension worth $56.26 million in 2016.
The Eagles signed Johnson to a four-year, $72 million extension that included $54.595 million guaranteed in 2019. Johnson was set to make base salaries of $7 million and $14.155 million over the next two years of his deal when he signed another one-year extension last offseason, then another one in 2025.
He was under contract through the 2027 season and was determined to play in 2026, yet is now changing his mind and will likely wind up enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame at some point in the future.
In 2026, Johnson appeared in and started three games at right tackle.
In his career, Johnson appeared in and started 171 games at right tackle, catching one five-yard touchdown pass. He was a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion, and was twice named first-team All-Pro.
We wish Johnson the best in his retirement.
