The Philadelphia Eagles have to snap this losing streak before it's too late, but they have a tougher opponent in Week 7, as they square off against the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota is 3-2 on the season and coming off their bye week.
A good team overall, the Vikings are interesting as well. The QB situation is still a bit murky, as veteran journeyman Carson Wentz has held it down with JJ McCarthy being out. Wentz has largely played well and might keep the Vikings in a good spot.
Defensively, Minnesota is tough, as defensive coordinator Brian Flores is poised to again field a top unit in the NFL, and he could get poached for a head coaching job next offseason. This does feel like a must-win game for the Eagles, and our bold predictions for Week 7 feature a bit of a mixed bag.
After one of the best seasons all-time by a running back, Saquon Barkley and the run game have gone downhill a bit. Barkley has not yet hit 100 yards on the ground and has rushed for just 325 yards in his first six games, averaging a poor 3.4 yards per carry, down from 5.8 in 2024.
The Vikings have a great defense, but opponents can run on it. With the Eagles playing in a hostile environment, the run game is going to be that much more important. With Minnesota's secondary also being top-notch, the offense must establish the run, and they will.
Philly will see Barkley hit the 100-yard mark on the ground, perhaps indicating better things on the horizon.
The Minnesota Vikings' secondary has been stifling this year. They have allowed the second-fewest passing yards in the NFL at just 875. They allow just 6.3 yards per attempt and have surrendered just five passing touchdowns this year.
One thing Philly hasn't done well this year is throw the ball. Jalen Hurts' limitations as a passer are being magnified with an offensive coordinator who is clearly in over his head. Hurts only threw for 101 passing yards in their win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but he'll be held under 100 passing yards in Week 7.
Kevin Patullo has been with the Eagles since the 2021 NFL Season and has worked his way up to the offensive coordinator role for 2025. However, that doesn't mean he'll remain in the role. At some point, if the offensive woes continue and this team just cannot hit their stride, would a change need to be made?
I think the answer is yes, and the directive to make the change might come from above. Simply put, the Eagles are too talented a team to lose three games in a row early in the season, and they should have the mindset of 'saving their season' with their third loss in a row.
The Minnesota Vikings will narrowly escape with the victory in Week 7, and I believe this could be when Kevin Patullo is shown the door.
