Eagles' secondary takes big hit during Thursday Night Football vs Giants

Philadelphia Eagles starting cornerback Quinyon Mitchell exited Thursday night's game early against the New York Giants in the second quarter.

According to reports, Mitchell left the game with a hamstring injury and was labeled as questionable to return. He was officially downgraded to out in the third quarter.

With Mitchell out, Adoree Jackson and Kelee Ringo took over the two outside cornerback jobs.

This is interesting considering Ringo had just taken Jackson's starting job from him after losing it during training camp. Now, the two will each have the chance to prove themselves in a big way with Mitchell sidelined.

Mitchell's Absence Will Definitely Be Felt

Mitchell's absence will definitely be felt. It was just two weeks ago when Mitchell was named Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

He allowed just two catches on nine targets for six yards while matched up against Bucs’ wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, according to Pro Football Focus. He also held Chris Godwin to zero catches on nine targets. His five passes defended were a career high.

So far this season, Mitchell has totaled 24 tackles, seven pass breakups, and one fumble recovery over six games.

The Eagles’ secondary has been shaky all season, and they still haven’t found a steady No. 2 corner, so this injury couldn’t come at a worse time. Now they’ve got more than one hole to fill. The good news is that the NFL trade deadline is not until No. 4, so the Eagles could look elsewhere if they're not satisfied with their current depth until Mitchell can return.
