Eagles sign ex-Chiefs linebacker during preseason

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed linebacker Brandon George to a one-year contract ahead of their preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday. The 25-year-old Reading, Pennsylvania, native joins Philadelphia after spending the 2025 season on the Kansas City Chiefs’ injured reserve list.

George went undrafted out of Pitt in the 2025 NFL Draft before signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. He remained with Kansas City through the offseason but was released in May to make room for the team’s 2026 undrafted free-agent additions.

Before entering the NFL, George spent six seasons with Pitt and was part of the Carolina Panthers’ 2021 ACC championship team. During his final college season in 2024, he recorded 80 tackles, six tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. Although he was a one-year starter at Pitt, George distinguished himself as a standout special teams player and tested as an impressive athlete.

George also starred at Berks Catholic in high school, where he played linebacker and running back. He finished his high school career with 2,753 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns.

The Eagles have considerable depth at off-ball linebacker, with Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell headlining the group. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon and Chance Campbell are also competing for roster spots. Chance Campbell has recently been limited by a groin injury, which could have contributed to Philadelphia adding George.

George faces a difficult path to the 53-man roster but can compete for a practice squad position and earn opportunities through special teams. His addition also gives Philadelphia another player for preseason and practice repetitions.

The Eagles have yet to announce a corresponding roster move for the signing. After Saturday’s game in Baltimore, Philadelphia is scheduled to travel to New England for two joint practices with the Patriots next week.
