Eagles Sign Super Bowl-Winning CB After Giants Win

The Philadelphia Eagles have brought a familiar face home following last Sunday’s victory over the rival New York Giants, re-signing veteran cornerback Parry Nickerson to their practice squad on Tuesday morning.

Nickerson, who turned 31 earlier this month, has recorded two tackles across 72 snaps in five games. Most of his action comes on special teams, though he’s seen 12 defensive snaps thus far.

Philadelphia released Nickerson from the 53-man roster on Monday as they prepare for numerous players, including fellow cornerback Jakorian Bennett, to return from injured reserve following the Eagles’ Week 9 bye. The Eagles still need roster spots for linebacker Nolan Smith and recently unretired pass-rusher Brandon Graham ahead of their Week 10 showdown with the Green Bay Packers.

What to Know About Eagles CB Parry Nickerson

Previously an All-AAC standout at Tulane, Nickerson entered the NFL as a 2018 sixth-round pick of the New York Jets. He’s spent the last few years racking up the frequent flyer miles, suiting up for six organizations since his September 2018 debut.

The 5-foot-10, 182-pound Nickerson has recorded 35 tackles in 35 career games. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles last year as a practice squad member.

It’s too early to know whether Nickerson will rejoin the Eagles’ 53-man roster after their bye week. Adoree’ Jackson missed Week 8 with a concussion, and he did not practice leading up to the Giants game.

What’s next for Nickerson and the Eagles?

Not only have the Eagles gotten back on track following a two-game losing streak, but they’re already inching closer to another division title. The 6-2 Eagles are the only NFC East team with a winning record, and they already hold a head-to-head victory over the 3-4-1 Dallas Cowboys. We’ll see the clubs resume their legendary rivalry on Sunday, November 23, in a game that could very well be the Cowboys’ last hope at staying alive in the division race.

In the short term, the Eagles will return to the field with a “Monday Night Football” showdown against the Green Bay Packers on November 10. Green Bay currently holds the NFC’s No. 1 seed, so the Eagles cannot afford to lose that game. Remember, only one team per conference gets a postseason bye under the current rules.

Yes, we’ve already reached that point of the season where we’re thinking about division winners and playoff home-field advantage. This season is flying by!

NFL Media gives the Eagles a 95% chance to reach the postseason, tied with the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the best among NFC teams. Only the Indianapolis Colts (96%) have a higher playoff probability rate leaguewide.
