Eagles Star Darius Slay Announces Decision On 2025 NFL Season

The Philadelphia Eagles reached the top of the mountain with their win in Super Bowl LIX, and it's understandable to see that a few veteran players on the roster are considering retirement.

Players train and play football for their entire lives to have the chance to win the Super Bowl, and doing it late in one's career gives them the chance for a storybook ending.

Several great players in NFL history have ended their careers after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, including Peyton Manning, John Elway and Michael Strahan - all of whom made the Hall of Fame.

One Eagles player has an outside chance to get there, and he's giving it at least one more chance with a return in 2025.

During an appearance on the "St. Brown Podcast" with brothers Equanimeous and Amon-Ra, Eagles defensive back Darius Slay said he's willing to give it one more go next season, even after winning the Super Bowl.

Slay said he would be open to playing "one more year" with the Eagles. He's under contract through 2025 which would fit his personal timeline, but he also acknowledged that the team could choose to move on, saying "you know how that works” to his fellow pros.

If he doesn't get the chance to run it back with the Eagles next season, Slay says he'd like to end his career at another destination that means a lot to him.

“If it is, it is. If it ain’t, it ain’t,” Slay said about going back to the Eagles.

“For sure, the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly and Detroit. The main two, the main ones I’d love to be at.”

Slay spent the first seven seasons of his career in Detroit, and appeared to be on track to finishing his career there before irreconcilable differences with then-head coach Matt Patricia.

Slay was traded to the Eagles before the 2020 season and has remained one of the top corners in football, even into his mid 30s. The Eagles will likely want to keep him around after their Super Bowl run, but with Patricia no longer in Detroit, a move to the Lions is certainly not out of the question.
