The Eagles are 2-4 and are without their starting quarterback for the rest of the year. It therefore would be reasonable to expect them to operate as sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.
However, the state of the NFC East makes it a little more difficult to predict what GM Howie Roseman will do. Philadelphia is in second place in the division, not far behind the 3-2-1 Giants, who will also be without their QB1 for the remainder of the campaign. And since the Eagles anticipated a deep playoff run when the season began and will presumably be expecting the same in 2027, it would be surprising to see Roseman initiate a fire sale.
Instead, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on a recent episode of his podcast, Roseman could be both a buyer and seller at the deadline (video link). In other words, he could deal players on expiring deals who may not have a place on next year’s club while acquiring talent that is under contract beyond 2026.
Although Jeff Neiburg of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes Roseman is more likely to be in the “seller” camp, he does suggest a hybrid approach to the deadline is a possibility. In any case, contract-year players like TE Dallas Goedert, DT Moro Ojomo, G Tyler Steen, and CB Riq Woolen are prime candidates to be moved. With respect to Goedert, Neiburg says “it feels like the end of the road this time,” and we had previously heard the team is unlikely to re-sign Ojomo.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says Ojomo has strong trade value, while both Fowler and colleague Dan Graziano identify Woolen as a player who could be dealt. Of course, Roseman could consider trading notable players who are club-controlled through at least 2027, a list that includes RB Saquon Barkley, LB Zack Baun, G Landon Dickerson, and EDGE Nolan Smith.
Though Graziano confirms the Eagles could demand a very high price in a Barkley swap, both Neiburg and Fowler are skeptical Roseman would pull the trigger on such a move. It may be a different story for Dickerson, who is currently on IR but whose practice window was opened earlier this month.
Fowler says Dickerson is “disgruntled,” and Jason La Canfora of Casino Guru News hears Philadelphia is actively trying to move the 28-year-old blocker. A Dickerson trade would be the latest shake-up to an O-line that lost Lane Johnson to a sudden retirement and Cam Jurgens in a trade to the Ravens. Speculatively, the return Roseman received in the Jurgens deal, which was headlined by a 2028 second-rounder, could make the GM more inclined to examine Dickerson’s trade market.
Supporting the notion of a buyer and seller strategy, La Canfora also hears Roseman could explore a move for a depth running back and/or wide receiver to help his club get through the rest of the year and perhaps aid in a playoff push.
