Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, once a top quarterback prospect out of Colorado, fell to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns selected him 144th overall. However, on Monday’s bonus episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Coach Prime shared some deets of the draft-day calls. It turns out that despite the slide, NFL teams actively pursued him, namely the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens.

How in the world, they made a big deal out of — Philly called us on draft day,” Sanders told brothers Travis and Jason Kelce. “Uh, they didn’t mention that, huh? I just let the cat out of the bag. Philly called.”

Deion Sanders reveals Eagles, Ravens, and Browns all made draft-day moves on Shedeur Sanders

Deion Sanders confirmed on the podcast that both the Eagles and Ravens reached out to discuss his son before Cleveland made its move.

Baltimore [called] and the Browns,” Sanders said. “They forget, I played for Baltimore, so [we’re cool]. So we understood that whole conversation, and he wanted to talk to Shedeur as well, he wanted to talk to me. And I put Shedeur on the phone and Shedeur — I don’t want to say how it went.”

The conversations alluded to Shedeur’s own mindset entering the NFL.

But how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years? Who comes in with that mindset?”

Shedeur gave a glance of his potential in Cleveland’s preseason opener, having completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two TDs in a 30-10 win over the Panthers on August 8. A later oblique injury during joint practices with the Eagles on Aug. 13 slowed him, and he struggled in the preseason finale, going 3-of-6 for just 14 yards with five sacks in a 19-17 win over the Rams.

The Browns added depth by drafting former Oregon standout Dillon Gabriel at No. 94, joining veterans Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson, who will miss the season after re-tearing his Achilles. Sanders is confident his son’s opportunity will come.

But I’m like, ‘Son, you gotta be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you gonna know and it’s coming up,’” Sanders said. “I got a prediction, but I’m not telling anybody. I got a feeling when it’s gonna go down. But it’s gonna go down and he’s gonna get a shot.”
