Eagles' youth movement leads to strong remarks regarding their offseason

The offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles was not something fans have been accustomed to seeing.

Typically, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman makes a significant trade or signing that alters the league's outlook. This has happened in the form of Saquon Barkley signing last year and A.J. Brown being traded to the team in 2022.

This time around, it was 12 free agents being signed to one-year deals and veterans like C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Kenny Pickett being traded away. The team also allowed multiple players to walk, including Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Mekhi Becton.

Philadelphia's focus was on getting younger with their lineup, and they accomplished that. Was it enough to warrant a high ranking of the best offseasons in the NFL?

How the Eagles ranked against the rest of the NFL in offseason performance

CBS Sports writer Josh Edwards ranked the top 10 offseasons in the NFL. The Eagles didn't finish in the top five, but they did rank ninth for the young players they brought in from the draft.

"Philadelphia's approach to the offseason was very savvy. It allowed veterans like Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, James Bradberry and Darius Slay to walk with the goal of supplying young, cost-efficient players with playing time. Veterans Josh Uche, Azeez Ojulari and Adoree' Jackson were added for insurance.

First-round selection Jihaad Campbell should supplement the pass rush while Andrew Mukuba immediately competes at safety. Fourth-round pick Ty Robinson steps into the interior defensive line development program recently vacated by Milton Williams."

The Campbell and Mukuba selections were essential as the Eagles keep their defense young with two potential starters. These were players with first-round grades who dropped to the Eagles, giving them the productive players they weren't expecting to get.

Campbell may not start in 2025, but he could be viewed as a solid inside linebacker for the time being before potentially transitioning to an edge rusher later on. Mukuba has to battle with Sydney Brown and Tristin McCollum for the starting safety job, which might go to one of the two veterans, but Mukuba will be in the rotation.

Robinson has become a quick fan favorite for his viral moments in offseason workouts. While he also won't start this season, Robinson provides insurance on the defensive line that they didn't have before the draft.

Roseman has had some outstanding drafts over the last five years, landing top talent such as Jalen Hurts, Jalen Carter, DeVonta Smith, Cam Jurgens, Jordan Davis, and many more. All this work in the draft will only pay off going into 2025 and beyond as these players hit the primes of their careers.

It wasn't a flashy offseason to say the least, but it was productive in setting up the future for the franchise.
