Effort is Not Enough for Dolphins

Through six weeks of the 2025 season, the Miami Dolphins are 1-5.

Yes, they have been playing a lot better as of late, and if last year is any indication, the team can recover from a rough start to make a playoff push.

However, this year feels a lot different.

For one, Miami was without Tua Tagovailoa for a four-game stretch early in the season, which contributed to their early-season drought.

Secondly, the team faced a much easier schedule during the latter half of the year, which allowed them to make up ground.

Lastly, even during a tough stretch, the Dolphins had plenty of veteran leadership that was looking to rally the rest of the group.

That was all the case in 2024.

None of that seems to be true this year.

Tagovailoa has started all six games for the franchise this year, and while he has some strong moments, which include leading the team on late-game drives to take the lead, his performance as a whole has left much to be desired.

Miami has struggled against the perceived lighter portion of the schedule as they still have to face Buffalo, Washington, Tampa Bay, New England, and Pittsburgh.

Oh, and even though Baltimore is 1-5, with the Dolphins’ luck, they will probably play them by the time Lamar Jackson is healthy again.

Lastly, as evidenced by Tagovailoa’s post-game comments after the loss to the Chargers, this team is falling apart.

They lack the player leadership that is needed to dig themselves out of this hole.

There is no Terron Armstead or Calais Campbell to walk through the door and really challenge the rest of the team.

In fact, most of the veterans on this team probably will not be with the franchise anymore once the trade deadline arrives.

The Dolphins were able to shrug off a tough start last season.

For many reasons, it seems like that won’t be the case two years in a row.

That will likely cost most of the people at the forefront their jobs.

And it means another rebuild is heading to Miami Gardens.
