If there were any questions about Eric Bieniemy’s coaching style, we have had them answered.

A video of Bieniemy coaching Chicago Bears running backs at the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend has gone viral. The video shows Bieniemy putting players through some catching and footwork drills.

“Get up field!” Bieniemy is heard yelling in the video. “Pick your f–king eyes up!”

Then, after a player knocked over a cone while making a cut, Bieniemy was upset.

“Why you touching the f—ing cones? The cones are not moving. Don’t touch the f—ing cones!” Bieniemy says.

For anyone who played football growing up, that type of coaching from Bieniemy should feel familiar. He’s tough and has high standards, and he communicates those standards to his players.

Bieniemy was hired in February to serve as the Bears’ running backs coach. From 2013-2017, he served as the Chiefs’ running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator. Bieniemy left Kansas City after the 2022 season and served as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator, but he was fired after the season. Bieniemy spent the 2024 season as UCLA’s offensive coordinator and was fired after one year.

Bieniemy may have lost his luster as a head coach candidate, but he’s still a hard-nosed running backs coach. Bears rookie 7th-round pick Kyle Monangai appreciates Bieniemy’s style.

“He’s a legend,” Monangai said of Bieniemy on Sunday. “He’s really insightful, great coach. Gets you ready for practice each day.”
