ESPN analyst Louis Riddick has reached a breaking point with the critics of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
Many have attempted to downplay Purdy’s success with the 49ers by noting that he is playing in a star-studded offense. Riddick has taken notice of this talking point, and he is left amazed that it has grown into a popular narrative in the world of the NFL today.
Riddick has come to the defense of Purdy all season long, and he once again did just that during an appearance on ESPN’s "Get Up" program on Tuesday.
"People will do gymnastics in their minds trying to cut him down, but the fact of the matter is, objectively, the stats say he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the best," Riddick said. "And if he wins this Super Bowl, I can’t wait to see how people twist themselves into a pretzel trying to discredit what he did. I cannot wait.
"I’m gonna get my popcorn, and I’m gonna sit back and watch them twist because it’s gonna be hilarious if he wins."
As Riddick touched on, the stats do help make the case that Purdy is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Purdy led the NFL in multiple stats during the regular season this year, including in passer rating (113.0).
Purdy currently has his sights set on the 49ers' upcoming Super Bowl 58 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.
