As the 2025 NFL season approaches, the Jacksonville Jaguars are garnering unexpected attention from analysts, particularly from ESPN’s Bill Barnwell. Despite finishing last season with a disappointing 4-13 record, some experts are predicting that the Jaguars could make a significant turnaround and secure a playoff spot this year.

The optimism surrounding the Jaguars stems from a revamped roster and new leadership under head coach Liam Coen . After a lackluster previous season, the team’s management has made strategic moves to bolster the offensive line and enhance playmaking capabilities. This shift is crucial for developing quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who is expected to thrive in a more supportive environment.

Statistical history also plays a role in the predictions for the Jaguars. Over the last decade, several teams that finished with four or fewer wins in one season have managed to double their win totals the following year. Notably, the Jaguars have previously turned around dismal seasons, as seen in their 2017 campaign when they jumped from three wins to 10 and reached the AFC Championship Game.

Analysts highlight the potential for growth in the Jaguars’ performance, particularly with a schedule that features a mix of competitive and winnable matchups. If the team can capitalize on these opportunities, it may not only improve its record but also contend for a wild-card spot in the playoffs.

Jacksonville is set to make a run towards the playoffs this season. This is detailed more in an analysis by Bill Barnwell for ESPN.

It feels as if the Jaguars run into the Our new coach is obviously a major upgrade on our old coach cycle more than any other team, but after Trevor Lawrence endured a static and frustrating offense when healthy in 2024, the hope has to be that he gets back to his old form with Liam Coen at the helm and a more modern offensive attack. We’re not that far removed from the midway point of 2023, when the Jags were in position to claim the top seed in the AFC in November before a Lawrence injury sent them into a tailspin. Then again, we were even closer to that moment 12 months ago, and Jacksonville certainly didn’t look like a 1-seed at any point in 2024.

Despite the skepticism that often accompanies rebuilding teams, there is a palpable sense of hope surrounding the Jaguars. With key players showing promise and the organization focused on improvement, fans are eager to see if the predictions hold true.
