Over the next two months, there will be information being released about the Indianapolis Colts quarterback situation seemingly every day.
They are currently in the midst of a contentious competition between incumbent Anthony Richardson and New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings castaway Daniel Jones.
The Colts still have major belief in Richardson and their hope is that bringing in some veteran competition will elevate his play.
But the sobering reality is that each of these quarterbacks have dealt with tremendous scrutiny throughout their careers because of inconsistent play which means that both players will probably play at different points of the season.
He also believes that the former Duke gunslinger will see the field this year even if Richardson is named the starter before the regular season.
Barnwell doesn’t believe that either quarterback will be overly successful, but Jones could struggle specifically because of discrepancies between his style of play and the Colts’ system.
The former Giant does not have a great deep ball which will be a big piece of the offense in Indianapolis and he is also not familiar with the quarterback run scheme.
These different aspects combined with the fact that the Colts don’t have the best offensive line situation could spell a recipe for disaster for Jones.
However, the one advantage he has is that he will be working with the best weapons of his career.
Indianapolis has one of the best running backs in the game in Johnathon Taylor, an exciting rookie tight end in Tyler Warren and a deep receiver group.
Jones may not be a perfect fit for the shoe, but he’ll be entering the best situation of his six-year career.
