At this point, Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts is open to a trade from the team for a better situation. Granted, Pitts isn’t requesting one himself, but he won’t say no, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Other than the 2022 season, Pitts has played in all 17 games in three of his four seasons with the Falcons. However, his production has dipped since his rookie season in 2021.
Are the Falcons moving away from him as a primary option in the offense? Perhaps. Fowler reported the former Florida TE could welcome an opportunity in a better offense, or at least, a better situation.
“So I checked it with a source who says that, look, if Atlanta gets the right kind of deal for Kyle Pitts, it could very well come together,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “I don’t think it’s a situation where they’re aggressively shopping him, but it appears, talking to some other teams, I think Atlanta is at least open to the possibility, and Pitts might be as well.
“I’m told he loves Atlanta, this is not a situation where he’s requesting a trade, but if he has a chance to go to, maybe a better offense, or he’s more featured. He’s sort of the third or fourth wheel right now in Atlanta, it could be something that he’s open to.”
Last season, Pitts had 47 catches for 602 yards, four touchdowns and 12.8 yards per catch. In his career, He has 196 catches for 2,651 yards, 10 touchdowns and 13.5 yards per catch. To put his numbers in perspective, Pitts had more than a third of his yardage production as a rookie (1,026 yards).
Going into 2025, Pitts will be in the final year of his rookie contract. He has not quieted any trade rumors either, as he opted to skip voluntary OTAs for the Falcons.
Pitts broke out in college during the 2019 and ‘20 seasons before the Falcons selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in 2021. In those two seasons, Pitts had 97 catches for 1,419 yards, 17 touchdowns and 14.6 yards per catch.
As a member of the Class of 2018, Pitts was a four-star recruit out of Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 4 overall prospect in the state, the No. 5 tight end in the class and the No. 168 overall prospect in the class.
