ESPN NFL insider throws out a hypothetical trade that would net the Browns Kirk Cousins in return for a recently added QB

Right now, the Cleveland Browns' quarterback room is loaded.

Far too early in the offseason to determine who will start, what if a new name entered the competition?

That's exactly what Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is proposing...

Kenny Pickett for Kirk Cousins?

This destination always made the most sense for Cousins, who has a long history with Browns coach Kevin Stefanski from their time together in Minnesota. After going through OTAs and minicamp, the Browns might realize they need another veteran to compete for the starting job. Cleveland currently has Joe Flacco, rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, and Pickett competing for the QB1 spot with Deshaun Watson out (Achilles). The Falcons could strike a deal where they front $17.5 million of Cousins' guaranteed money for 2025, and Pickett would be Atlanta's new QB2.

Here's the only holdup in Fowler's proposal, and one that he knows better than anyone. To this point, the Atlanta Falcons have had zero interest in paying any of Kirk Cousins salary if he's not on the team.

They want to either keep Kirk Cousins as their backup to Michael Penix, or trade him to a needy team who is willing to pick up his entire contract. Wishful thinking, I know. Given the price that Cleveland is already paying to their QB room, particularly for a player who won't play via Deshaun Watson, the idea kind of falls flat on it's face.

But the Browns and Cousins have been linked throughout the offseason. Cousins stirred the pot when he went on what looked like a restaurant tour in Cleveland, and we have seen multiple reports that there was at least some interest.

Not if the Browns have to foot the bill, however. They would have to look at their four quarterback options of Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and Joe Flacco and say, "we have no shot to win" for them to truly consider Cousins, and I just don't think it will get that far in Cleveland.
