ESPN’s Dan Graziano breaks down how Shedeur Sanders, Browns QBs divide reps in camp

Shedeur Sanders and the rest of the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks will have to divide up the reps under center in some sort of fashion. ESPN’s Dan Graziano broke down how Cleveland will manage to do it in minicamp and eventually training camp.

Sanders, a fifth round pick out of Colorado, slid in the draft but was eventually picked up by Cleveland. That was after the Browns already drafted former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel in the third round. 

Logically, the rookies can battle it out to be the QB of the future, but Sanders and Gabriel are also competing with Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. Good luck figuring out this puzzle.

“Everybody’s happy with what Shedeur Sanders is doing. It’s just a question of getting everyone enough reps so that they can make a real evaluation,” Graziano said on SportsCenter. “You have the two veterans in Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, and you have the two rookies in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Kevin Stefanski, the head coach, is designing practice in a way to maximize reps. There are periods where the rookies will be on one field doing seven on sevens or 11 on 11, while the veterans are on another field doing the same thing. 

“So as we get into mini camp here, and as the Browns get into training camp, that’s going to be a big part of the story is, how do they get everybody enough practice reps so that they can make a decision on who deserves to start week one.”

Sanders comes in with some credentials, including being the FBS’ all-time leader in career completion percentage. He finished his two years at Colorado with 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 71.8% completion percentage.

“We’re all different characters,” Sanders said of the Browns QB room on Up and Adams. “It’s funny going in there and seeing Joe everyday. It’s funny because at practice I’m like ‘Wow I’m really with Joe Flacco right now.’ We’re on the same team! That’s cool and of course with Kenny, with the experience he has being in the league for these years it’s cool, just seeing the process. Deshaun of course, he’s active in there, he’s in all the meetings. It’s cool to talk to him.”

Sanders was borderline smitten with Flacco with the way he talked about his elder teammate. From growing up watching him to learning from him, Sanders truly embraced the quarterback room in Cleveland.
