Previous stories noted how quarterback Aaron Rodgers impressed Pittsburgh Steelers players and coaches with how he was "super down-to-earth and not at all what you would expect" after signing a team-friendly contract in time to participate in the club's mandatory minicamp in June.
Running back Evan Hull spent his first two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before inking a reserve/future contract to join the Steelers in January. During a recent interview with KSTP Sports in Minnesota, Hull discussed his early interactions with Rodgers.
"He's a cool dude," Hull said about Rodgers, Steelers Depot's Troy Montgomery shared. "One thing I noticed about him is he does his research on his teammates, which is really cool to see. He knew stuff about me before we even had a real conversation. Before I told him about myself, he already knew things about me. I was like, 'That's pretty cool.'"
The notion that Rodgers was not building chemistry with Steelers teammates, as he remained unsigned through the voluntary portion of the offseason program, has disappeared as Pittsburgh players prepare to report to training camp on Wednesday. Rodgers has already taken rookie quarterback and sixth-round draft pick Will Howard under his wing. The future Hall of Famer also hosted some pre-training camp workouts in Malibu for members of the Steelers roster.
"I noticed, the first time meeting another teammate, he knew stuff about him, too," Hull continued. "He really took the time to get to know his teammates. In this year in the game for him, I was impressed by that. He's just an impressive person in general."
None of this means Rodgers will reclaim the form that made him a four-time MVP at the age of 41. After all, he dealt with multiple physical setbacks while with the New York Jets last season, coming off the torn Achilles he suffered in September 2023.
That said, Rodgers insisted earlier in July that he wants to finish his career "the right way" with the Steelers. His actions over the past month or so seem to show he's serious about that vow heading into training camp.
