Ex-Chiefs foe would rather retire than play for the Raiders

Kansas City Chiefs fans remember when the then-Oakland Raiders drafted Amari Cooper in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft and saw him tear it up his first two years. It was a relief when the Raiders "raidered" as they normally do, trading Cooper to the Cowboys where he continued to ball out.

From there, Cooper spent time in Cleveland and was traded to the Bills ahead of last year's deadline where he underwhelmed. The former first-round pick out of Alabama took his time deciding where he'd play in 2025 and eventually chose to sign with the team that drafted him over a decade ago, rejoining the Raiders.

Well, that comeback didn't last long. After agreeing to return to the Raiders a week ago, Cooper has changed his mind and is going to retire instead, per Ian Rapoport.

Raiders left embarrassed after Amari Cooper chooses retirement over playing for them

Cooper certainly didn't look like the same player after getting traded to Buffalo and was not the threat that the Bills were expecting him to be. That made Chiefs fans thankful that they missed out on acquiring Cooper in a trade last year and got DeAndre Hopkins instead.

Cooper might have hoped that there was still something motivating him to play but after getting to Las Vegas and practicing with the new-look Raiders, he decided that motivation wasn't there for him. He chose to walk away rather than suit up for the Raiders and try to complete his comeback. Hilarious.

Chiefs fans weren't particularly worried about having to face Cooper considering he's clearly declining but this story is pure comedic gold for Chiefs Kingdom. A player signed with the Raiders, spent a week with them, and is already peacing out. One week with the Raiders was plenty for Cooper.

What would make this even funnier is if Cooper decided to unretire a few weeks from now and play for a different team but we'll take what we can get for now. Any news that dunks on the Raiders is entertaining in Kansas City.
