One member of the 2018 Los Angeles Rams has forgiven a past Pro Bowler who denied that team the Vince Lombardi Trophy. And is now urging this talent to join L.A.
Ex-Rams defender Warren Herring watched how his former team didn't draft a cornerback in April. Then missed on landing both Jaire Alexander and former Ram Jalen Ramsey over the summer. But he mentioned one name still out there on the open market.
Ex-New England Patriots star turned NFL journeyman Stephon Gilmore remains a free agent. Herring played against Gilmore in Super Bowl LIII, losing that contest 13-3.
But Herring spoke of the Gilmore possibility on The Money Down Podcast. He sent this sales pitch over to the one time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
"Come over to LA. We like you in the blue and gold," Herring said. "You did it to us once. Now, get us one. You owe us one. We need some veteran presence in the room. We’d love to have you.”
Gilmore delivered five tackles that game. Plus picked off one Jared Goff pass. His Patriots bottled a high-powered Rams offense that evening down in Atlanta.
The CB since then has suited up for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and more recently the Minnesota Vikings.
He's intercepted one pass in every season he's played in the league, including one last year in the Twin Cities. He'd enter his 14th season in the NFL if the Rams do bring him over.
L.A., though, appears to be confident in its CB room despite the lack of star power at the spot. L.A. lured back Derion Kendrick after briefly waiving him. Cobie Durant enters season four and a contract season. Ahkello Witherspoon finds his way back to the roster on short term deals.
But clearly, the ex-NFC champ Herring wants to see one more piece get added. In the form of Gilmore.
Meanwhile, Gilmore himself said on the podcast he does want to play. But it must be "the right situation" for him.
