Expert NFL Mock Draft Sees Philadelphia Eagles Landing QB1

One of the toughest questions to answer in NFL mock drafts is what the Philadelphia Eagles decide to do at quarterback. With Jalen Hurts done for the year due to blood clots, there are questions about his future.

Now, of course, everyone just wants Hurts to be healthy, but it does raise some questions about the future. It would be one thing if Hurts was playing extremely well before this, but there was a fair share of criticism.

In this 2027 NFL mock draft from Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY, we explore the scenario of Philadelphia taking a quarterback in round one.

Now, to get some additional context, the Eagles currently hold the 5th overall pick in the NFL draft, but in this scenario, Middlehurst-Schwartz writes this:

“using ESPN’s current average draft position for each team to establish a first-round order:”

That allows the Eagles to pick 4th in this scenario, which you’ll see really benefits them. In this mock draft, Jeremiah Smith, Leonard Moore, and Dylan Stewart are the three picks prior.

Should the Philadelphia Eagles Draft a QB?

With the potential to take the QB1 Drew Mestemaker, Middlehurst-Schwartz has Philadelphia doing just that.

Now, despite having Mestemaker as my QB1 and number one overall player in the class (with positional value), this is not the move I would have made. Colin Simmons is in that tier one of defensive talent, and he makes more sense.

Mestemaker would be appealing, but unless the Eagles know Hurts can’t play in 2027, it makes sense to take a swing at quarterback in round two rather than 4th overall.
