Falcons set to interview Robert Saleh

The Falcons have set up another head coaching interview with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Now, there are not a lot of defensive coordinators that intrigue me this hiring cycle, and there are even fewer that have already been head coaches in the past, but Robert Saleh is in his own category.

Saleh is arguably the best defensive coordinator in football, and his failed stint with the Jets can be attributed to the fact that he was with the Jets, one of the only organizations that’s a bigger dumpster fire than the Falcons. Saleh had New York competing again, featuring one of the best defenses in the league. The only problem was that Zach Wilson was his primary quarterback during that stretch.

The Falcons young defensive talent, specifically across the defensive line, paired with a defensive mind like Robert Saleh is dreamy to think about. It’s also worth noting for those interested in retaining Jeff Ulbrich, that could be a real possibility with Saleh, as the two worked together in New York, with Ulbrich taking over as the interim head coach after Saleh was fired.

Saleh is a no-nonsense head coach that demands respect. He would instantly change the culture around Flowery Branch and have the defense flying around like one of the best in football. If the Falcons could figure out the quarterback position under his watch, it would be the perfect marriage.
