Falcons WR Calvin Ridley hopes to play vs. Saints

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley may not miss more than a game with the mid-foot sprain that he suffered during the Oct. 29 win over the Carolina Panthers.

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Tuesday that the 25-year-old, who missed the Nov. 8 showdown with the Denver Broncos ahead of the bye week, ran with trainers on Monday and is trying to get himself right ahead of Sunday's matchup at the New Orleans Saints.

“We should have a better feel for him on Wednesday, getting him in here, getting him into individual drills, getting him into a little bit of team work and see how he goes, talking him through it and just seeing where he’s at little by little, step by step in order to get him to Sunday and see if we can get him going,” interim coach Raheem Morris told reporters.

Ridley entered the week as Atlanta's leader in receiving touchdowns (six), yards (657) and targets (68), and he shares the team lead in catches (43) with Julio Jones. While the Falcons won't want to rush the third-year pro back before he's ready, Atlanta has won three of four under Morris' leadership and is preparing to face a New Orleans side that will be without the injured Drew Brees at quarterback.

Either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill will start for the Saints Sunday.
