Football is finally back! Week one of fantasy football can be scary but also exciting. Deciphering who to start and who to sit can be challenging, having yet to see a downplayed in the new season. Here are some starts and sits you won’t want to miss in week one.
The start of the season will be the rookie’s time to shine. While veteran Chris Godwin continues to recover from his injury sustained last season, Egbuka will have every opportunity to cement himself as a steady weapon for the team moving forward. It can be easy to forget that the Buccaneers spent the 19th overall pick on him. Be reassured by the investment and start him in week one vs the Falcons.
With Rashee Rice suspended for the first six games of the season, Worthy will serve as one of the top targets for Patrick Mahomes. Although the team didn’t throw the ball as much as fantasy managers would have liked to see in 2024, a new year may bring a new script. Worthy is the kind of player who only needs a few catches to have a monster week in fantasy. Despite the tough matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, it’s too tempting not to start Worthy with the absence of Rice.
Despite having a few formidable weapons, the Jets’ offense looks to be one of the worst in the league this year. First-year head coach Aaron Glenn brings a strong defensive mindset to New York. Look for the team to run the ball more than usual until Fields can prove himself as a reliable thrower. Facing the Steelers in week one is a daunting task that fantasy managers should avoid if possible.
The arrival of rookie quarterback Cam Ward has fantasy fans hopeful regarding the outlook for Ridley. While throughout the season he should see more production than in years past, week one doesn’t appear to be his time to shine. Lining up against one of the best cornerbacks in the league, Patrick Surtain, has proven to be a tall task for even the best receivers in the league. After holding Ja’Marr Chase to only 10 receptions on 19 targets through two games last year, expectations for Ridley should be tempered in week one.
Week one is tricky when it comes to fantasy football. Simply looking at positional matchups and gameplay expectations can simply the process of deciding who to start and who to sit. Best of luck!
