The Miami Dolphins have officially been camping for a week. Miami's veterans reported to camp one week ago today, and the team just culminated their sixth practice in the last seven days. It's been a fast and furious start to a high-stakes season in Miami, with the Dolphins strapping on the pads today and taking another step towards a return to play.

With the Dolphins now boasting a fairly significant amount of practice workload, it's worth investigating which players are moving in the right direction? Who are some of the biggest risers for Miami through the first week?

Here are five notable names to know who look to have a good season ahead of them if the early showings are any indication.

Offensive tackle Patrick Paul

Paul appears to have remodeled his body this offseason. He has shown some improvements in his hand usage, which was one of the major complaints from his rookie season and his tenure at Houston before Miami drafted him in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Paul has been getting battle-tested daily by edge rushers Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, and Jaelan Phillips, which serves as a wonderful primer for opposing pass rushers this season.

Paul has big shoes to fill and may not be as consistent at Terron Armstead was for the Dolphins on the field, but Paul is looking like he'll be comfortable in his own game and give Miami sufficient play as a key part of the team's remodeled offensive line.

Linebacker Willie Gay

Gay has been perhaps the biggest surprise of training camp thus far. He's been everywhere. Gay has made plays as a pressure player, as a coverage defender, and fitting the run. It was a frustrating season for Gay in 2024, which he readily admitted during his Monday press availability. But the years prior to his stop in New Orleans, Gay started 47 of 57 games played with the Kansas City Chiefs and was regarded as a quality player.

He didn't just forget how to play. It seems as though the Dolphins are in position to get the Chiefs-version of Gay in 2024, if the first week of camp is any indication.

EDGE Defender Chop Robinson

Here's a scary thought. Robinson, being one of the biggest risers in the first week despite being one of the team's best defenders down the stretch in 2024, should be offering Dolphins fans visions of Cameron Wake 2.0 in their midst. Robinson has that kind of explosiveness to his game and is becoming a more consistent point of attack presence against the run, too. The Dolphins are currently in a position to have a wonderful problem amid their logjam of edge rushers — Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips both look great upon their returns this season, too.

QB Quinn Ewers

It's still fair to state that Ewers is the team's third quarterback. That's the bad news. The good news is that amid Tua Tagovailoa's injury history, the team will almost assuredly carry three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Ewers' college system has plenty of overlap with Mike McDaniel's offense in Miami — and he's put together a couple of strong practice efforts to close the end of his first week of training camp as a professional quarterback. The quarterbacks have all individually had their fair share of strong showings, but Ewers has the furthest to go, so seeing his improvement throughout the week is a promising development.

The Options At Cornerback

The long-standing panic over Miami's cornerback room has not fully subsided — nor should it. Questions remain, including the health of veteran cornerback Kader Kohou, who sustained an injury on Saturday. But the Dolphins added Jack Jones and Mike Hilton to the room over the weekend, bolstering the depth chart with experienced starters that they simply didn't have at the start of camp. Miami would surely love to see some of its young talent still step up and claim playing time, but if they don't, Hilton has previously played with safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in Pittsburgh and can help tie things together in a remodeled secondary.
