One of the best defensive players to wear the Alabama Crimson Tide jersey has announced his retirement from football. Linebacker C.J. Mosley has told CBS Sports that he will hang up his cleats after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Mosley played for the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets during his time in the league. He was a first-round draft pick in 2014, selected at No. 17 by the Ravens after spending four seasons in college at Alabama under the guidance of the great head coach Nick Saban.
The five-time All-Pro linebacker was released by the Jets after the 2024 season, with the 32-year-old appearing in just four games due to injuries.
In his 11 years in the NFL, Mosley finished with totals of 1,083 tackles, 12 sacks, 12 interceptions, and 53 additional pass break-ups. Aside from his final season in the league, the Alabama native registered over 150 tackles in his first ten seasons, tying him for the most consecutive seasons with 150+ tackles.
Coming out of high school, Mosley was a four-star recruit, choosing Alabama over rival Auburn. He was the second-ranked player in the state, behind another Alabama commit, Dee Milliner.
Mosley appeared for the Crimson Tide from 2010 to 2013 and was a back-to-back national champion under Saban, who retired recently. He also scooped the Butkus Award in 2013, awarded to the best linebacker in college football at the end of each season. He was also the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in the same season and was a Unanimous All-American.
