This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys came armed with a fair amount of cap space to do some wheeling and dealing with, thanks to the "Blow It Up" concept we regularly spoke on last season.
Having made some smart signings, there hasn't been the big outlay, and yes, you could say that the deal for George Pickens was notable, but he was acquired via trade, and no big financial effort was involved there.
Instead, bargain deals have been used to sign players.
That brings us to the Micah Parsons contract situation.
It is headline news every day and rightfully so, but many are becoming tired of the story and just want it to end one way or another. Still, this saga continues to burn like a wildfire ...
And it's taken Cowboys Nation's attention away from something that might be seen as an even bigger storyline.
Dallas' salary cap situation.
Everyone is so focused on Parsons getting signed, that some might have forgotten that at the time of this writing, the Cowboys and COO Stephen Jones have a little over $31 million in cap space, which is the eighth highest in football.
Why does the franchise have so much money simply sitting around?
What was the purpose of the Blow It Up season in 2024 to keep their powder (money) dry for this offseason, to then not use it?
That might be a more pressing issue than what is happening with Micah because the Cowboys have money to spend, and yes, you need to keep a little for a rainy day during the season, but not $31 million worth.
So while the Parsons saga has taken everyone's attention, don't forget that the Cowboys - with a roster still in need of help and still seemingly inferior to that of NFC East rivals Philadelphia and Washington - have a vault full of cap space just sitting there, which would, for the record, increase (by at least $10 million) with the extension-signing of Parsons.
There are a lot of head-scratching things this front office has done recently but having $31 million in cap space sitting there and not using it might sit at the top of the list.
