Forgotten Packers weapon gets best possible news about his early-season outlook, and it boosts the chances he makes a real impact

MarShawn Lloyd had a nightmare rookie season for the Green Bay Packers. After the team selected him in the third round last year, a combination of injuries and health issues limited his participation in 2024 to 10 offensive snaps and seven touches. Now, it seems like that's finally about to change.

The young running back missed the practice open to the media last week during Packers organized team activities (OTAs), but he was ready to practice on Tuesday, the second practice of this week — and the only one where journalists could watch the activities.

"Everything happens for a reason," Lloyd said earlier this offseason. "It's been a very, very rough year, but I got time. I'm getting healthy, so I'm getting there. Then it's just attacking the offseason and being ready to go."

The Packers took Lloyd in the third round last year with the hope he could be the perfect complement to starter Josh Jacobs. Now, he will compete with backups Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks. And the experience he got to improve off the field is helpful, so it’s not like Lloyd is a rookie.

"Obviously, he's disappointed the way the year has gone for him,” said running backs coach Ben Sirmans. “But it's almost, to a degree, like having a redshirt year from the standpoint of the time that he's missed."

Being at practice is huge for Lloyd. With time to get ready on the field, chances are higher that the back will have a real role to kick off the regular season.

More notes from practice

> Cornerback Jaire Alexander and center Elgton Jenkins were still not at practice due to their contract situations with the Packers. Linebacker Quay Walker, center Trey Hill, and guard John Williams weren't present either, and cornerback Nate Hobbs was out with a personal matter.

> Defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera, edge/linebacker Collin Oliver, defensive tackle Warren Brinson, and wide receiver Christian Watson were in the rehab group. Safety Javon Bullard didn't participate either.
