Former 49ers DE Clelin Ferrell joins Dolphins

The San Francisco 49ers did not attempt to re-sign defensive end Clelin Ferrell this offseason, but the unrestricted free agent has found a new NFL home, reportedly agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Ferrell entered the NFL as the fourth overall pick out of Clemson in the 2019 NFL Draft, signing with the then-Oakland Raiders. He spent his first four NFL seasons with the Raiders before signing with the 49ers ahead of the 2023 season.

Following brief stints with the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers, Ferrell returned to the Bay Area, signing with the 49ers on October 29, 2025. He initially joined the practice squad before earning a promotion to the active roster on November 15, 2025.

During the 2025 season, Ferrell recorded 24 tackles (four for a loss), four sacks, and five quarterback hits. Over seven NFL seasons, he has appeared in 98 games with 57 starts, totaling 184 tackles, 21 sacks, and 12 passes defensed. Ferrell also contributed four career forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
