Last season, Chase Lucas and Tracy Walker both played a role in a magical season for the Detroit Lions that ended in a heartbreaking defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
Now they are set to be teammates once again, as members of the 49ers.
The 49ers signed Lucas earlier this offseason, adding him to a deep cornerback group, with his ability to play the nickel role and his special teams experience likely key to San Francisco making that decision.
On Wednesday the 49ers handed a try out to Walker, who was released by the Lions after an injury-hindered 2023 campaign, and Lucas couldn't have been happier to see the veteran safety.
I’m not positive but I saw former Lions DB Chase Lucas very excited to see one of the tryout DBs

49ers just signed former Lions S Tracy Walker so I assume that’s who is in this video pic.twitter.com/nx5bqGCMaK
And he will be sharing the practice field with him a lot more, at least for the rest of training camp and preseason, with Matt Barrows of The Athletic reporting that the Niners plan to sign Walker.
Per source, the #49ers plan to sign S Tracy Walker, who worked out for them today. Walker, 29, was a third-round pick by the Lions in 2018. He’s started 43 games in the last six years, including six last season.

The 49ers cut a S, Erik Harris, today.
That follows the decision to release another veteran safety, Erik Harris, who was part of the 49ers' practice squad last season.
Earlier on Wednesday, the 49ers announced they signed wide receiver Jontre Kirklin and running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn. In order to make room for that duo, the Niners released Harris and waived/injured Terique Owens, the son of Hall of Famer Terrell Owens.
Owens, per Barrows, broke a bone in his hand and is expected to be sideline for five to seven weeks. If he is unclaimed on waivers, he will revert to injured reserve.
