Former Texas A&M offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. agreed to a 4-year, $82 million contract with the Tennessee Titans on Monday. The former Aggie agreed to the deal shortly after the NFL’s legal tampering period opened.
During his time with the Aggies, Moore played in 44 games, including 36 consecutive games as Texas A&M’s left tackle from 2018-20. Moore earned a spot on the 2020 All-SEC second team after an impressive senior season. The Beaumont, Texas native was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Moore started 66 games during his first four seasons in the league with the Steelers. The 26-year-old was Pittsburgh’s primary left tackle during his tenure with the Steelers, but a difficult 2024 season led to him leaving in free agency. Moore allowed a league-high 12 sacks in 2024 as Pittsburgh’s offense faltered late in the season.
Despite Moore’s struggles, his deal is the largest for a tackle thus far in this year’s free agency cycle. Moore could be a key piece for the rebuilding Titans as they look to solidify their offensive line. While his struggles in 2024 were glaring, Moore played 98.6% of the Steelers’ offensive snaps last season and was a consistent presence along the offensive line. The Titans placed a high value on this durability, giving Moore $50 million guaranteed as part of the deal.
Moore will likely be Tennessee’s primary left tackle after rookie JC Latham struggled in his first year with the Titans. The Titans used the No. 7 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Latham, but the former Alabama tackle primarily played right tackle in college and will slide back there next season.
Moore will protect the blindside of Tennessee’s quarterback next season, but who that will be remains a mystery. The Titans hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and could look to highly touted quarterback prospects Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders as their next signal-caller. However, in the latest Athlon Sports mock draft, the Titans are projected to trade down to pick No. 3 and select Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. This suggests the Titans could look outside of the draft for their starter in 2025.
With Tennessee’s quarterback in flux, the Titans will need Moore to be a veteran presence along their offensive line. Even with Moore’s struggles last year, the Titans appear to have their tackles of the future with him and Latham. With Moore getting a fresh start and Latham returning to the right side, the Titans now have their tackles solidified for their next quarterback, whoever that may be.
