The Kansas City Chiefs open the 2025 NFL season with an international game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday, Sept. 5. The game will be streamed live for free on YouTube at 8 p.m. ET.
While quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce star on the field and head coach Andy Reid patrols the sidelines, another member of the Chiefs team that won Super Bowl LIV will have a significant role during Week 1.
Exactly four weeks after retiring from the NFL, former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu was announced as a member of the star-studded studio crew for the historic broadcast.
Mathieu enjoyed a 12-year NFL career after being selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU. He played for the Cardinals, Houston Texans, Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.
During Mathieu's three seasons in Kansas City from 2019-2021, he earned a Super Bowl ring (2019), two Pro Bowl selections, and two first-team All-Pro honors — cementing himself as one of the premier safeties of his generation.
He was not the only recently-retired former AFC West star to be named to the YouTube cast. Longtime Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will join Mathieu in the studio.
