Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Bryan Braman was undergoing intense treatment in Seattle for a very rare and life-threatening form of cancer, according to a GoFundMe set up on his behalf.
The fundraiser was started back in February by William Jones, who posted an update on June 20 saying Braman is now back with family. He added that Braman had been battling complications from several surgeries, largely due to a weakened immune system from all the treatment.
“By the time he was able to recover so he could continue with the chemo, the cancer has grown expedentially [sic] faster, and is is [sic] now growing around his vital organs,” Jones wrote. “The Dr’s are now concerned because of his treatment, his chemo options are very limited. They have tried all of the various treatment options, and unfortunately, none of them are working against this cancer.
“But Bryan has not given up. He is looking into other trial treatment programs, and is determined to never give up.”
Braman's GoFundMe set a goal of $25,000 but quickly exceeded it, raising over $88,000.
However, NFL agent Sean Stellato confirmed with ESPN on Thursday, July 17, that Braman had passed away at age 38.
Braman played seven seasons in the NFL between 2011 and 2017, suiting up for 97 games mostly as a special-teams and backup linebacker. He started out with the Houston Texans, then joined the Eagles in 2014.
During his second stint with the Eagles in 2017, Braman came up big with a blocked punt in the divisional round of the playoffs. He capped off his NFL journey in unforgettable fashion, helping Philly win Super Bowl LII over the Patriots, which marked the final game of his career.
