Former Giants first-round pick Deandre Baker set to meet with the Chiefs TODAY NETWORK

Now that the armed robbery charges against former New York Giants first-round pick Deandre Baker have been dropped, there’s a ton of interest around the NFL in the young cornerback.

As you might remember, Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar were wanted on armed robbery charges earlier this year stemming from an incident in Florida.

In what has to be considered shocking news, Deandre Baker saw charges dropped against him on Monday after the Broward County Sheriff’s office filed extortion charges against the attorney representing the alleged victims. Baker, 23, is now free to sign with any team and won’t face any discipline from the NFL.

Obviously, the defending Super Bowl champs are the first to show real interest in the star young corner.

Months after being released by the Giants, Baker could soon go from one of the worst teams in the NFL to the defending champs.

The Chiefs’ interest in this former Georgia standout is not surprising in that they have taken on other divisive personalities in the past, Le’Veon Bell and Frank Clark included.

Selected 30th overall back in 2019, Deandre Baker recorded 61 tackles and eight passes defended in 16 games (15 starts) as a rookie.

If Baker were to land with the Chiefs, he’d be joining a pass defense that has yielded a mere 11 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions through the air.

The rich would get richer.

However, a high number of NFL teams are expected to show interest in Deandre Baker. He’ll likely take more visits moving forward.

The Baker situation just goes to show you that convicting someone in a public forum without the legal situation playing out can have wide-ranging ramifications. For the Giants, that could include the team seeing their recent first-round pick suiting up for another team.
