The Indianapolis Colts are preparing for the 2025 season, but a former player has decided that his football career is officially over.

Safety Armani Watts announced in his most recent Instagram post that he is retiring from football and, as a result, the NFL.

Watts began his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs after they selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent the entirety of his rookie contract with Kansas City and appeared in 53 games and logged one start. He recorded 58 total tackles and two pass deflections during his time as a Chief. While he played some defense, his main role with the team was on Special teams, with him logging 997 special teams snaps in his career and only playing 282 on defense. Of course, the top moment of his time with the Chiefs came in 2020 when he became a Super Bowl champion.

Watts signed with the Colts as a free agent before the 2022 season. The goal was for him to be a key special-teams player for the team, and many believed he was going to make the 53-man roster in that role. Sadly, he never got the chance to see if he would have earned a roster spot, as he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the preseason against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After his contract with the Colts ended after the 2022 season, Watts was away from football for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He didn't spend much time with the Colts, but that didn't stop Colts LB and defensive captain Zaire Franklin from showing him love in the comments of his retirement post. This offseason, he tried to make a comeback to the game by signing with the Toronto Argonauts, but was released before ever appearing in a game on May 14. And now it looks like he is ready to say goodbye to the game of football officially.
