Former Jets QB Jordan Travis blasts Woody Johnson over alleged 'slick comments' about injury

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has been mentioned in sports stories throughout October due to the state of the 1-7 team and because of controversial comments he made about Jets starting quarterback Justin Fields.

2024 fifth-round draft pick Jordan Travis never got to take a meaningful in-game snap as a member of the Jets, as he announced his retirement this past spring due to complications related to the serious left leg injury he suffered while playing for Florida State in the fall of 2023. On the latest edition of the "Travis Take Two" podcast, Travis touched upon insensitive remarks Johnson allegedly made about the signal-caller's setback.

How Woody Johnson "upset" Jordan Travis amid injury recovery

"I mean no disrespect, but there were things that were said to me ... about my leg. Like, just slick comments," Travis said about those supposed interactions with Johnson, per Manny Gomez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "I don’t know if he was trying to be slick about it or, you know how some older people, they just kind of say whatever comes to their mind. It kind of made me feel a certain type of way. I told you about a few of them. 'You ever gonna get healthy?' and I’m just like, 'Damn.' Not, 'How you feel,' never that. It was always like, comments like that. And that’s kind of upset me, but kind of rolled over my head."

For an article published in March of this year, Travis' agent told ESPN's Rich Cimini that the previous Jets regime "tried to rush" the quarterback back into action, which caused Travis to experience a setback. At that time, the agent was "optimistic" Travis would be ready to play by the start of the ongoing season.

How Justin Fields "inspired" Jordan Travis

More recently, Johnson basically blamed Fields for the Jets' 0-7 start to the 2025 campaign. Fields then completed 21-of-32 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown to help Gang Green earn an upset 39-38 win at the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday. Following that victory, Fields admitted that he spent some time in his closet "crying on the ground" amid the Jets' preparations for the Cincinnati game.

"Kudos to Justin Fields, because I don’t know if you saw his press conference, but you can see on his face. He’s not even distraught," Travis added during the podcast. "It was really cool. It inspired me. I freaking reposted it on my Instagram. Now is his chance. He’s getting attention. God still has his hand on him the whole time, man."

One can't help but wonder if the outspoken Johnson will eventually respond to Travis' comments.
