Former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy is out for the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday due to a shoulder injury sustained last week.
To finalize the 2024 NFL season, the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22, a game in which Kansas City was dominated for most of the game. However, it was also a game in which Worthy led the team in receiving yards with 157 yards.
Last week, during the Chiefs’ game against the Chargers, Worthy went down with an injury after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce, who was running routes towards opposite sides of the field.
This week, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid described Worthy’s chances of playing as “slim,” but didn’t completely rule it out.
Worthy was drafted by the Chiefs as the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He also set the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record with a 4.21 time. In his first season with the Chiefs, he recorded 638 yards and six touchdowns.
In Worthy’s three seasons with Texas, he recorded a career total of 197 catches for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns.
