Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr, a former LSU Tigers standout, just completed his third season in the NFL -- which means he's eligible for an extension this offseason.

Stingley, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, was asked on Monday about his future with the Texans.

The Baton Rouge native made it clear that he wants to stay in Houston "forever".

"Yeah, I want to here forever," said Stingley when asked if Houston is where he wants to be longterm.

While Stingley wants to stay with the Texans for the long-haul, he indicated on Monday that an extension this offseason isn't necessarily a priority (though that could quickly change).

"I'm gonna let whoever handle[s] that, handle that," said Stingley. "I'm just gonna be here, working out and taking care of me."

Houston will almost certainly pick up Stingley's fifth year option before the deadline later this spring (unless an extension is worked out before then).

The former LSU star will be in line for a big day whenever the extension does end up happening. Stingley, who was named to his first career Pro Bowl in 2024, is coming off his second straight season with five interceptions. Stingley also set career highs in 2024 with 54 total tackles and four tackles for loss.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who turned 30 in October, signed a three-year extension worth $72.3 million in September.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II also signed an extension in September, though his deal is worth slightly less annually than Ramsey's (Surtain's extension was for four years and $96 million).

Stingley could be looking at a deal worth around $25 million annually, which would make him the highest paid defensive back in the NFL.
