Former NFL coach doesn't see Jon Gruden joining Saints right now

The New Orleans Saints made a move that many fans asked for over the past couple of seasons. Their offense has been inconsistent, and there's too much talent to give more time to Pete Carmichael Jr.. The move has been expected since the end of their season.

Now, their search for a new offensive coordinator begins. They'll interview plenty of candidates and won't rush themselves.

Jon Gruden has been a name discussed over the past couple of weeks as a potential add to the coaching staff. Although talks have not progressed far at all, a reunion for him and Derek Carr is possible, according to previous reports

Only time will tell if Gruden is a legitimate candidate for the opening, but his brother, Jay Gruden, was asked about the chances of it happening.

"I don't know. Jon loves football - I know that. He loves Derek Carr, so there's obviously that connection right there. But I know Jon has got a lot going on right now...

I personally don't see Jon working for anybody. I think Jon would be his own boss if he got back in, but you never know with him. He loves football, and he loves Derek. It would be a good fit for him down there in New Orleans, but I think it's a long shot. You never know."

Jay is also a former offensive coach in the NFL.

Regardless, it is fair to assume that discussions between the Saints and Jon Gruden have not advanced. If they had, his brother would probably be aware. The Saints' prior meeting with Gruden may not have had any job strings attached at all.

It sounds like Jon is content with his life at the moment and may not want to return to the pros anytime soon - regardless of the team. His brother thinks it's a long shot right now.

The Saints have a plethora of offensive talent with Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, Juwan Johnson, and more, in the fold. They have a veteran quarterback with plenty of NFL experience in Derek Carr. It will be interesting to see who takes on the role to replace Carmichael as OC.
