Former NFL executive shares bleak Bill Belichick prediction

Former NFL executive and current NFL Network analyst Marc Ross isn't all that convinced that Bill Belichick will receive a head coaching job in the league next offseason regardless of what's previously been said about the matter. 

"As far as a head coach, yeah, I think this might be the end of the road for him," Ross recently told TMZ Sports about Belichick, as shared by Ryan Gaydos of Fox News Digital. "If he wants to take a step back and be a coordinator, that may be something down the line. … Will he want to do that? That’s the situation for him."

Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon said during an appearance on the NFL Network "Good Morning Football" program last week that he thought Belichick could spend time with a franchise working as "an analyst or something behind the scenes" this year. 

However, it's believed the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach who turns 72 years old in April could instead serve as some sort of on-air personality for one of the NFL's media partners during the 2024 season. 

Shortly after Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank hired former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to be Atlanta's head coach this offseason, it was reported that "multiple owners reached out to Belichick about next year’s hiring cycle" despite the fact that some within the league allegedly have questions about the living legend's "ability to relate to this generation of players." 

Rumblings hinted that Belichick wanted more power within the Falcons than Blank was willing to relinquish, but Blank eventually attempted to pour cold water over that theory. 

"I think what really happened was that Bill Belichick — the name and the rings, and you can’t dismiss what he’s done in the league," Ross told TMZ. "But when you’re a team, and you’re looking at all the different factors bringing him in there, that throws a lot of things out of whack for you. … I think, unfortunately, the head coaching career could be over for Belichick."

Belichick is expected to pursue coaching jobs next winter, as he is 15 wins away from setting a new NFL record for career victories earned by a head coach (regular season and playoffs combined). 

He only needs one advertised contender to view him as a missing piece for a potential Super Bowl run in January 2025, but Ross suggested teams won't want to deal with all that comes from hiring a massive figure such as Belichick considering the New England Patriots missed the playoffs three times over the past four seasons under his watch. 

Belichick hasn't recorded a postseason victory since the Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl LIII in February 2019.
