Former NFL head coach believes Brian Branch should have gotten a three-game suspension instead of one

The Detroit Lions will be without Pro Bowl safety Brian Branch on Monday Night Football after the NFL suspended him for one game without pay for punching Juju Smith-Schuster in the face and starting a brawl against the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

One game seems like a bit much, especially when there's been other times when players have punched other players and didn't get suspended. Then again, Branch has 13 fines on his docket already, and you can see why the league acted a little bit more rashly with him. One former NFL head coach believes that the NFL didn't act rashly enough.

Bruce Arians believes Branch should have gotten a three-game suspension

"Yeah, it's gonna be at least one. I would hope to see more, because no place for this." Arians said on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday. Post game so many people could have got hurt, and that could turn into a huge melee had other guys got involved. Thank God the cooler heads prevailed. Guys were trying to get them off the pile, stop it, instead of joining in, start throwing helmets and all the (expletive) that can happen. I would have I've been fine with three games."

Look, earlier I compared this thing to Will Smith's incident, and I'm going to do it again. Right after that situation, everyone had to get their thoughts in, and someone that stuff blew the entire situation out of proportion. I mean, Judd Apatow speculated that Will Smith could have killed Chris Rock. This is the age that we live in where everyone has ot be outraged beyond belief instead of just regular upset.

No doubt about it that Arians is partially right. Guys should not be punching each other before, during, or after games. There shouldn't be any place for it in today's game. But it's well understood that this is a contact sport, and emotions run high, and sometimes humans just fight each other. That doesn't mean everyone has to lose their jobs or get suspended for a month. One game is appropriate. Let's all just move on from there.
