NFL insider Dianna Russini and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel made headlines this week after they were spotted holding hands, hugging and dancing at a hotel in Arizona ahead of the league’s annual meeting.
Both parties denied that they had something more than a friendly relationship, but plenty of fans didn’t buy it. The Athletic confirmed they won’t make any changes regarding Russini, supporting her amid plenty of criticism.
Fans were ruthless on Thursday after she broke her silence and made a social media post that caught plenty of attention.
Former NFL quarterback turned radio host Boomer Esiason shared his thoughts on this situation. He explained that regardless of what really happened in Arizona, the insider’s credibility took a major hit.
“The biggest problem is, let’s say there was a female wide receiver coach, we now have female coaches in the league, and let’s say you saw (ESPN New York Jets reporter) Rich Cimini hugging her,” Esiason said on Wednesday’s edition of “Boomer & Gio.”
“We’d all be saying, ‘Ah there goes his journalistic integrity out the window.’ You know what I mean? And that’s really what this is all about, whether or not she can recover from that kind of feeling within the business. I’m not really worried about the salaciousness. I actually do believe both of them.”
Esiason added that the comments on social media wouldn’t be particularly pleasant. Russini already got a taste of it under one of her posts. Many fans exhorted her to address the elephant in the room, but she doesn’t seem to be in a rush.
