While quarterbacks get most of the spotlight, Las Vegas Raiders running back and former Boise State star Ashton Jeanty has garnered a lot of attention dating back to his record-breaking days in college.
Last season alone, Jeanty, the No. 6 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, had the second-most rushing yards (2,601) in a single season all-time, only trailing Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders' 2,628 yards at Oklahoma State in 1988. The Heisman Trophy runner-up also set numerous records at Boise State, including the most career rushing yards (4,769) in school history.
That type of upside and explosiveness is why ESPN football broadcaster and former NFL safety and executive Louis Riddick says Jeanty is his favorite rookie entering the 2025 season.
"It's Ashton Jeanty for sure. ... This is the dude that can deliver for you from the backfield," Riddick said during a Wednesday appearance on ESPN's "Get Up." "That's what teams are looking for now, these home-run hitters. He's with the perfect head coach in Pete Carroll, the perfect offensive coordinator in Chip Kelly and they're gonna love this dude in Vegas. I think Ashton can push 1,600, 1,800 yards this year."

Only Army's Bryson Daily (32 TDs) had more rushing touchdowns than Jeanty (29) last season. His 2,601 yards were so dominant on the ground that the next-closest RB, Arizona State's Cam Skattebo, only had 1,711 yards.
Jeanty joins a new-look Raiders franchise that not only features a new head coach (Carroll) and offensive coordinator (Kelly), but a new signal-caller in Geno Smith, who signed a two-year deal with the organization during the offseason.
Tight end Brock Bowers returns for a second season after posting the third-most receptions (112). He was tied with Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb for the eighth-most receiving yards (1,194) in his rookie season.
The addition of Carroll gives the Raiders a Super Bowl champion at head coach and someone who is as experienced as anyone in the league. That could be a perfect match for Jeanty, who will look to help the Raiders improve on a league-worst 79.8 rush yards per game in 2024.
A stacked AFC West will make things challenging as the Kansas City Chiefs go for a 10th consecutive division title this season. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos made some offseason moves and return a lot of production from last season's playoff teams.
The Raiders are coming off a four-win 2024 season and have not made the postseason since the 2021-22 campaign. That does not sound appealing for the talented RB, but if his collegiate success translates over to the NFL, there is no reason to believe he cannot have similar success in "Sin City" if all the pieces fall into place.
