An NFL offense is like a complicated language, so using audibles outside the offensive lingo creates problems. Tyler Polumbus, a former offensive lineman for the Broncos and Seahawks, claimed Russell Wilson is doing this.
"Russ is losing his mind out there-- he's using audibles from the Seahawks. The guys don't know the audibles. He's using codewords that the guys don't know"

"Russ is losing his mind out there. He's using audibles from the Seahawks," Polumbus said Wednesday on Altitude Sports Radio in Denver.
Benjamin Albright, a Broncos insider, verified Polumbs' assertion that he's using audibles from his former team. "There is truth to that," he said on Twitter.

Wilson rewriting the offense is baffling because it confuses the rest of the team. Perhaps he is losing faith in rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett, who could be on the hot seat.
"I think you have to fire Nathaniel Hackett," said FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd on Monday. "They have talent. You're not going to fire Russell Wilson."

Although the Broncos cast Hackett as an offensive wizard, the former Green Bay offensive coordinator has struggled to translate his scheme in Denver.
However, a quarterback disregarding the authority of a head coach can ruin a team. Also, it validates concerns about Wilson, who has been called high-maintenance.
"The difference with Russell is, he's a lot more high-maintenance," an unnamed general manager told The Athletic’s Mike Sando when comparing Wilson to Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford. "He's got the entourage. He needs the office at the facility, the extra hotel rooms on the road, all that stuff."
Regardless of inexperience or ego, Hackett and Wilson have caused a messy offensive sputter in Denver. The Broncos rank 30th in total first downs and last in offensive touchdowns scored (12). Clearly, they need to form a compromise.
