Former Patriots Center Finds New Home After Release

The New England Patriots made a swath of moves on Monday, releasing six players in the aftermath of the 2025 NFL Draft.

In amongst them was former fourth round pick out of Troy, interior offensive lineman Jake Andrews, who made just one start for the organization in two years on the team.

A pick that then head coach and de facto GM, Bill Belichick, hoped to potentially turn into the eventual replacement for his namesake and now-retired center, David Andrews, during his final draft with the Patriots.

And whilst things did not pan out in New England, the ex-Patriot has been claimed off of waivers and officially has a new home, the Houston Texans

The former Patriot likely became expendable after just the second day of the draft when the team drafted Jared Wilson out of Georgia in the third round with the 95th overall pick.

With former Minnesota Vikings first round pick, Garrett Bradbury, the incumbent starter at the position in Foxborough, with Wilson waiting in the wings, it became clear that Andrews had little shot at competing at that position on what he had shown on tape over the past two years.

Plus, given Cole Strange and Mike Onwenu's entrenchments at guard, Andrews would likely have found little luck pivoting to a different interior o-line spot.

For the Texans, Andrews does not alter the trajectory of their franchise, but it does give them a potential competent backup center behind starter, Jarrett Patterson, a role that was previously being held by undrafted free agent, Eli Cox.
