Earlier this offseason, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak said that Jauan Jennings views himself as a No. 1 wide receiver.
And now it appears that the former Tennessee Vols standout is hoping to be paid like a No. 1 wide receiver.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Jennings either wants a new contract from the 49ers or he wants to be traded.
The former Vol signed a two-year extension worth $15.4 million with the 49ers ahead of the 2024 season. Jennings is set to earn $7.5 million in the final year of that deal in 2025.
"Jennings has approached the 49ers about his request, but little progress has been made, a source told ESPN," wrote Schefter. "If a new deal is not reached by the time training camp starts next week, Jennings plans to request a trade to a team willing to pay him."
Interestingly, Schefter noted that Jennings isn't planning to hold out when training camp starts later this month.
"He is not expected to be a training camp holdout, but he is not expected to be happy, either, as the 49ers saw last summer with Aiyuk," wrote Schefter.

Jennings had a career year in 2024, catching 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.
The former Vol has been underpaid throughout his career, due to being a seventh round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Jennings turned 28 last week. His value right now is likely as high as it will ever be, which makes this his best chance to cash in with a lucrative longterm contract -- which he certainly deserves.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens, in fact, said earlier this year that Jennings should be getting paid the "big bucks".
"Look at what Jauan Jennings did this past year," said Owens in February (via KNBR). "Going into the season, early on in the season when there was obviously a contract situation going on with Bradon Aiyuk, you saw that Jauan Jennings played like a $30 million receiver. He's the one that probably should've been getting paid the big bucks. But he's put himself in position to make a lot of money down the road. I know he has another year on his contract."
We'll see in the coming weeks if Jennings gets his wish for a new contract with the 49ers or if he ends up landing with a new team for the 2025 season.
